My GUY

So after the success of my first blog (success being measured by my family loving my blog and wanting me to write more), I have decided to continue writing some more blogs. I will use this blog as a diary of sorts to chronicle my life lessons, my thoughts and learning's and events for my children. I hope that I can somehow print these off and bond them together for journals for my kids some day. So today I officially dedicate all my blogs to Jamie, Brittany, Jason, Chelsea (my kids) and to my niece Michelle who got us all started in the first place. My husband has yet to read them... stay tuned for a special dedication to him some day in the future.

Here is my 2nd blog. Enjoy!

Today I write about one of my favourite people in the world my son Jason. (I only thought that it was right to dedicate the 2nd blog to my son after my first blog was to my girls.)

When Jason was born I was so happy for me. Not for his father who now had a son, not for my daughters who now had a brother, not to carry on the family name but for me. I had grown up with all much older sisters and all my life I so wanted to experience a brother. That didn't happen so my next best option was to have a son. And on September 14th, 1990 my prayer was answered and I was blessed with a baby boy named Jason. Jason was so adorable and quite frankly grew into the cutest little boy there was. (sorry my opinion). He was always happy baby and such a good baby.

Jason and I have always been close and always will be. He is "my GUY". When I was a single mom for about 12 years, Jason became the man of the house. He affectionately looked after his baby sister Chelsea and he loved to do extra special things for me... just to make my life easier. I can still see him standing in the kitchen one day when I arrived home in the evening late from working out of town, dishcloth in hand, broom leaning against the counter, getting ready to attack the kitchen and make it all clean for me. A surprize for me upon my arrival home. What a sweetheart!

But what always comes first when I think of Jason is what I deem to be his special gift. He is an old soul. He has wisdom beyond his years and always had. If you believe in reincarnation, you would think that he had been here on earth a few times before. He seemed to do and know things that he shouldn't for his age and it was like he knew his life purpose very early in life. For example when he was about 8 years old I found a note in his closet. It was his own personal will tucked inside a little bible. It was a very short read but essentially he was giving this things away in the event that anything happened to him. And if there was any money, it was to go to me as he was desperate to ensure that I was taken care of. (After all, he was the man of the house.) It was the sweetest note ever. I wished I had kept it.

As I had mentioned Jason seemed to know at a very early age, what he wanted in life, what he wanted to do and with what type of person he wanted to be. He knew the importance of working hard and playing hard and the balance needed for both. He has goals and he started to achieve them very early on in life. Goal like buying a snowmobile and saving the money for it, learning how to trap shoot and purchasing those guns for the sport, like riding dirt bikes, obtaining his hunting license, purchasing his black lab, and even purchasing his black truck. All of these things he has achieved already at the very young age of 18.

And note that all of these goals have never centered around the academics. I never once wished that he would be a doctor or a professional as a result of an university education because I knew (and he knew) it just wasn't his calling. When he was 3 years old, he picked up a piece of freshly cut wood, smelt it and said - I love that smell. That was the exact moment when I knew that academics would never be his first choice. He was a labourer. And how true that turned out to be. Jason strongly disliked the structure of school and the need for homework, but he should could ace a snowmobile licence or a hunting licence exam. Again, Jason knows what he likes and what he didn't.

Being an 'Old Soul' caused Jason to grow up fast. But Jason is the happiest person I have met in my life. He is currently apprenticing to be an electrician and he LOVES it. How many people do you know who can say at the end of each day that he had a great day. Probably not many, but truthfully I have never heard Jason say that he has had a bad day.

I am confident that he will remain focused and successful. I often laugh to myself thinking that Jason without his university degree will probably be the most successful monetarily wise than the girls who have or are going to university. It is Jason's focus and peaceful purpose that has served him very well thus far. I look forward to watch Jason as his life unfolds. And more importantly, I will continue to learn from this Old Soul...who is 'My GUY'.
